Similarities Between MCB and MCCB

MCB and MCCB difference

The most asked question in an electrical interview is what is the difference between MCB and MCCB?, So today I will tell you the main difference between MCB and MCCB.

MCB and MCCB full name

MCB- Miniature Circuit Breaker

MCCB- Molded Case Circuit Breaker

Before the difference between these two MCB and MCCB, you should know what is the similarity between these two.

Similarities Between MCB and MCCB

1. MCB and MCCB are both electrical circuit breakers, whose function is to protect our equipment by automatically shutting down at the time of the fault.

2. Both MCB and MCCB are low voltage circuit breakers, meaning both of them can be used only under 1000 voltage.

3. Both MCB and MCCB protect our equipment in case of short circuit and overload fault.

Difference Between MCB and MCCB

MCB vs MCCB

1. MCB is available in the market from 1 ampere to 63 Amperes, while MCCB starts from 63 Amperes to 1000 Ampere.

2. There is no remote control in MCB, whereas in some MCCB you get a remote control with the help of this, you can also close the MCCB remotely.

3. The interrupting rating of MCB is up to 18000 amperes, while that of MCCB is up to 2,00,000.

Here the interrupting rating tells the capacity of our equipment, how much current that device can withstand for a maximum of 1 millisecond. As we all know, at the time of the fault, the current flows in a very large amount.

4. Tripping current level is fixed inside MCB, while inside MCCB we can increase or decrease the tripping current.

Meaning- We get a port above MCCB itself, by making it more or less, we can set MCCB to more or less current according to us. Whereas in MCB we do not get this port.

5. MCBs are used in homes, lighting circuits, and for the protection of small equipment running on low load. Whereas MCCB is used in the company and for larger equipment protections.
